Early Information Regarding The 2008 Debanquet: Celebrating 43 Years of Myers Park Debate

May 9th, 2008

The 2008 Debanquet will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 6:00. The event will be located in the Martha Bowles Parish Hall at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Uptown Charlotte and will be catered by La-tea-da’s Catering and Events. Team members and class students and their families are invited.

As always, the banquet will celebrate our team – and our rich 43 year history. The banquet will feature performances from our IE team, recollections, pictures, funny stories, and, of course, the Westies.

A formal invitation will be mailed to your house with further information on the event, including information on tickets and reservations. Tickets and reservations are required; the cost (which is still being worked out) will be roughly $12 per person.

Reservations will be made online at www.mpdebate.org and will begin being taken Monday, May 12.

We hope to see everyone at this celebration May 28!

If you have any questions, please email Geoff Yost.

States Dinner Orders

March 25th, 2008

Dinner at the TFL State Tournament this year will be by Jason’s Deli, and each school is being asked to preorder the meals desired. We have created a signup on the website to facilitate this. Please sign up for your meal choice as soon as you can so we can get the order in to the States people. Note that the meal costs $7, and includes a sandwich (roast beef, turkey, ham, or vegetarian), chips, pickle, dessert, and drink. This will be the only dinner option available, meaning if you do not order food now, you will not have dinner Friday night. Also note that by signing up, you are agreeing to pay for the meal.

The link to sign up is accessible through the tournament signup link at the top of this page, or alternatively by clicking here.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

The Postseason Has Begun!

March 2nd, 2008

Myers Park Speech and Debate is now preparing for the most important two months of the forensics season.

This upcoming weekend, March 7-8, the team will be competing in the district qualifier for NFL Nationals. About 30 students will be competing for spots to Las Vegas in June.

April 18-19 will be TFL States. Myers Park has 84 people signed up for this event. The team has placed first at every local tournament we have fully attended this year, so capping it off with a team victory in Greensboro and coming home with the Governor’s Cup will hopefully occur!

May 3-6, select students who have qualfied to the Tournament of Champions will be in Kentucky for the most difficult tournament of the year.

May 24-26, over 20 students will be competing at the NCFL Grand Nationals in Appleton, WI.

June 15-21, is the NFL National Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada. Students who qualify will have all expenses paid for their one week stay for the Desert Light Nationals.

Keep up the good work!
